This is our first official class outing! Ok.... though there is also serious work to be done, nothing wrong with having fun at the same time.
I personally find it quite enriching especially the video which contains footage not seen in previous documentaries. Also, I find myself quite uninformed of the location where the British surrender took place. My history teacher didn't tell me that. Didn't have enough time to read through all the explanation of the exhibits because only half an hour was given. I hope you don't just take posey pictures of one another but do keep some pictures of the exhibits as it will remind you of the things you learn in this trip.
On a serious note, please try to see beyond history as an examination subject. There are a lot of valuable lessons we can learn from the past, like
- how bad living conditions can get in wartimes
- how people adapted and survived tough times
- war results in cruelty between man and man (These people were strangers living in different parts of the world but war force them together and one hurt/torture/kill the other just bcause they were on different sides of two warring countries.)
Conclusion: Humans behave like beasts in times of war. But ironically, war also brings out the will and strength of the human spirit. It is not that war is good, but the way people respond to it can be quite noble. I suppose the best thing to happen at any point of time is to toughen ourselves in peace time and not overindulge and get spoilt by luxuries of life because such things could be gone one day.
I'll post the pictures and the fun parts in a separate post, it is good to be reflective for now.
