I have decided to post every 25 hits... since this is 75 and National day, here I go...
Some of you will go to JC next year, some of you won't
For those who are not going to JC I don't think the Poly will do anything to gather people together to celebrate National Day, you'll have to find ways to celebrate it yourself. I like this year's theme, "Live our dream, Fly our flag". I realised that whatever we go through in this country we call home, we need to realise that this is a place that is able to help us fulfill our dreams. Our dreams and aspiration may be more difficult to achieve should we be born somewhere else. There are
so many war torn countries in this world,
so many poor countries with impoverished people
so many corrupted government that only the rich can fulfill their dreams
so many racially discriminating places that you need to be a certain race to excel
although many other places boast majestic natural wonders and Singapore has none, I'm thankful that as a Singaporean, I can go to anywhere in this world and see these places because the Singpore Passport is welcomed all over the world.
As a secondary school pupil, you may feel little about Singapore, sometimes even resentful. The thing is, just like how I felt when I was a teenager who protested aircon bus services costly and impractical, there are many things to be thankful for. We all need to open our eyes to see them. With age and experience, you'll appreciate all these things better in the future.
Being a school teacher, I'm already living my dream, a dream I had since sec 3. My father is a construction worker, my mother worked in a factory nightshift (10pm - 7am) for 20 years. In other places, you need many generations to reverse poverty. But here, you can do it within your own generation.
What's your dream? Go ahead and fulfill it, there's no better place to do it than in this country.
Happy National Day.
